I've spent 15+ years keeping servers, networks and cloud environments running for energy, healthcare, legal and small business. My work centers on Azure, VMware, Linux, Windows Server and enterprise networking, with a focus on security and automating away the manual work. Today I'm a systems engineer at Syracuse University, and I run ServerGuys, a managed IT company for small businesses.
Maintains servers and cloud infrastructure for the university.
Runs a managed IT company for small businesses: help desk, cybersecurity, cloud and backups. Built and maintains the company's own infrastructure and internal systems, and designs and ships websites and web apps for clients.
Managed a large hybrid environment: 100 Dell physical servers, 300 virtual machines, 80 Azure servers and 50 AWS servers. Kept Linux, ESXi and Dell firmware patched. Helped build a new data center in Las Vegas with a vCenter cluster on iSCSI storage and new database servers. Supported Azure Virtual Desktop for remote staff and set up servers for remote offices across the country.
Built and secured Azure environments for clients, including VPNs, virtual machines, Azure AD accounts, MFA, compliance reporting and just-in-time access. Automated server and network setup with Ansible and managed ESXi hosts, VPN tunnels and FortiGate firewalls. Developed Cyber-ECP, an application that gives users secure access to OT equipment at remote sites across the US.
Ran network monitoring for the health system's NOC. Upgraded and maintained SolarWinds, built live network maps and dashboards, and set up alerts that restart failed services automatically to reduce call-outs. Wrote the NOC hurricane response plan, served on the Change Advisory Board, and managed VPNs on Palo Alto and Cisco ASA firewalls.
Automated monitoring that caught stuck processes before they caused late-night call-outs. Upgraded the network backbone from 1 Gb to 10 Gb on Cisco equipment. Handled Windows Server, Active Directory, patching, backups with Veeam and Jira administration. Moved physical servers to VMs, replaced legacy systems with Docker containers, and connected Google Cloud to the main office over a site-to-site VPN.
Managed Windows servers across two data centers, including compliance reporting and tape backups. Virtualized critical servers on VMware ESXi, kept more than 200 Windows servers patched, and maintained endpoint protection. Supported Solaris and Windows upgrades, VPN monitoring and Check Point firewalls.
Led the hardware team that replaced more than 5,000 computers. Built Tech123, a web tool for asset tracking, backing up and restoring user data, and installing software remotely.
